The exhibit elaborates on the idea of transience in a durational medium. Includes experimental video shorts and two audience involved performances: Erase With Me & Trace With Me
ERASE With Me is a large-scale deconstructive painting performance. It explores impermanence through involving the audience in a tactile experience. The initial painting takes days to complete and is made solely to be modified and deconstructed in front of and by the audience. The audience is supplied with erasers, water bottles, paper towels, sponges and mops. Within hours, the representational image transforms into a gray wall of spontaneous gestures.
TRACE With Me II. is a guided audience performance exploring creation in a dictated setting. The task is to follow the artist’s projected marks by tracing the paths of two glowing dots with colorful markers on the wall. This is an interaction between the artist’s intention and the participant’s interpretation. The resulted image is a controlled abstraction. The movement of dots are seemingly unpredictable, but ultimately follow a pre-recorded image at actual speed. 20 min loop repeats and participants eventually draw on top of previously made marks. Each visitor interaction transforms into a playful performance about anticipation, control, and tolerance.
